New Critters at the Feeder

New Critters at the Feeder

New Critters at the Feeder, This is the Evening Grosbeak,  a chunky, big-billed finch, wanders widely in winter, descending on bird feeders in colorful, noisy flocks, to thrill feeder-watchers

New Critters at the Feeder

This one here is a female, a flock of them swooped in at my feeder but by the time I got my camera only one was left. I will try and get a photo of the male because he is even more colorful.

And this gorgeous little red squirrel that came by the feeder as a light snow was falling.

  1. And how did I forget to comment on the squirrel – I have never seen a red squirrel but they are so cute when I see photos of them. This one, just like the tiny black and gray squirrels, is especially cute and posed nice for you. I’ve also never seen a chipmunk, probably I’m the only person in the world to claim that!

    1. Thanks Mr. Ohh, I have a couple more shots of the little red squirrel for tomorrow. He was hanging around in the tree today. 🙂

  2. Ah yes. The cute little red squirrel. A group of us got terrorized by one of these sweet little “woodland friends” late at night on a week-long canoe/camping trip many years ago. Lol!

        1. Yes, I was sitting by the feeder yesterday with my camera and I was a bit close for his liking. He was chattering and the old tail was just a going. I backed up a bit and then he was happy with that. 🙂

  3. We have a bird feeder that the squirrels think they own. Recently the squirrels have figured out how to knock the feeder off the hook it hangs from. I have not seen them do it so I don’t know if they ride it to the ivy below or if it starts swinging so hard when they do jump off. A different possibility is that one squirrel who hangs by his hind feet from the gutter pulls the hanging feeder toward him and the ring is pulled up and over the hook.

    1. They don’t quit, that is for sure, trying to find ways to get to the feeders. Every now and then I find mine on the ground also by morning.

    1. Thank you Gerry, you would love it I am sure. I have been feeding birds my entire life. And it is relaxing, fun and just amazing to see all the different species of animals come to your backyard. And birdbaths bring in even more critters.🙂

  4. The squirrel was a nice surprise. 🙂 Now I’m curious to see the male finch, although the female is pretty too. ❤️

    1. Yes, the Male was there and he had what looked like a bright yellow uni brow on top of his eyes. It was such a deep rich color yellow.
